The Pub

The Rising Sun is a gem of an Inn overlooking a sandy cove and the sea beyond. This lovely whitewashed Inn dates from the 15th century and was once owned by Lord Gordon of Gordon's Gin fame. Much of the original character still exists and served from a bar made of old whiskey barrels are six real ales, mostly Cornish, from the Wooden Hand Brewery of Grampound, Truro and Spingo from the Blue Anchor Brewery of Helston.

A popular range of bar snacks are served at lunch time while the main a la carte evening menu (booking advisable) features local produce as far as possible, including superb fresh fish dishes supplied straight from the fishing boats at Mevagissey harbour. The Inn is an ideal base for exploring many delights of coast and countryside, also nearby Heligan Gardens and the Eden Project and also Portmellon Galleries.

There are seven letting rooms all with en suite facilities and are available from 1st March to the 31st December. The Inn boasts a rum collection exceeding over 250 different rums. Outside there are a few good tables and seats (and a water bowl for dogs) and some more tables and chairs on the front terrace outside the restaurant. This sandy, rocky cove is much quieter than Mevagissey, even in summer and very peaceful indeed out of season. Some of the bedrooms overlook the water and the sea is safe for swimming and boating with an August Regatta. The Inn has tide-time dials outside. Once found, keep this secret.
